Writer Bio

I am in UIUC’s class of 2023, pursuing a major in Psychology with a Concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience, minor in Music and Integrative Biology, and certificate of MCB in Neuroscience. On campus, I work as a research assistant at the Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory at the Beckman Institute. I also perform the duties of Primary Editor and Treasurer for a scientific journal called, ‘Brain Matters.’ Lastly, I am a part of an acapella group called the ‘Illinois Rip Chords,’ and occupy the position of Public Relations Director for the club. In my free time, I like to practice my guitar and sing. I also enjoy drinking infused teas, reading books, and watching Marvel movies!

Research Interests

Psychopathology

With the advancements in technology and the standard of living, there has been a rise in the number of environmental stressors. These stressors are harmful to our body in a mental and a physical manner. Thus, understanding psychopathological problems and mental health disorders is the need of the hour. I am particularly interested in the brain substrates associated with mental health disorders, and how they can be treated to improve the health of a patient.

Neuroplasticity

Although it was previously believed that the Central Nervous System and its’ neurons could not change at any point in one’s lifespan, recent developments indicate otherwise. Neuroplasticity interests me because it is an enigmatic process which proves that the body is malleable and can adapt to its surrounding environment. I am intrigued by it and wish to learn more about how it can be an avenue for the treatment of several brain and nervous system related disorders.

Gastroenterology

The gut-brain axis has been a topic of interest in research and medicine in the past years. Several studies indicate that the gut can influence one’s mood and behavior and vice versa. I am interested in how mental health disorders and poor brain health can cause stomach related diseases like indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome, and consequently, how the treatment of one organ impacts the other.
