Writer Bio

I am a member of the class of 2022 at Dartmouth College where I am majoring in Biology (with a concentration in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) with minors in Chemistry and Theater. Later, I hope to attend medical school and work towards becoming an Immunologist, Geneticist, or Pathologist. On campus, I am really involved with Residential Life as an Undergraduate Advisor, Co-Chair of the South House Executive Council, and Co-Chair of the Interhouse Council. Additionally, I write for the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science and am doing research on phytohormones with the Schaller Lab. To relax, I enjoy going on runs, watching Jeopardy, and playing board games with friends!

Research Interests

Immunotherapy

The immune system is incredibly complex with much still to learn about it. Research into how we can better utilize and teach the cells of the immune system to fight off diseases like cancer as well as preventing and fighting autoimmune diseases is fascinating to me. Additionally, I’m interested in the possibility of using immunologically derived molecules (especially antibodies) as medicines.

Genetic Disorders

Due to the presence of a genetic disorder in my family called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I’ve long been fascinated by the prevalences, mechanisms, and treatments of genetic illnesses. I enjoy learning about the potential use of gene-editing technologies as a cure for as well as the use of more traditional therapies as treatments for these ailments.

Evolution

I really enjoy learning about unexpected applications and consequences of Darwinian Natural Selection. For example, seeing how a disease can alter the genome of a population in response to favorable traits helping some survive the disease. Another example lies in the development of human-like sclera (the whites of the eyes) in many dogs, resulting in more favorable treatment by humans.
