Writer Bio

I am in the class of 2024 at the University of Pittsburgh, where I study Biology on the pre-medical track and am pursuing a Chemistry and a Studio Arts minor. Outside of ICJS, I am involved in undergraduate research in the Department of Biology at Pitt, am on the design committee for Pitt ASA, and on the underclassmen committee for Pitt CASA. In my free time, I love to draw and play games with my friends!

Research Interests

Computational Biology

Computational biology takes advantage of the vast amount of unutilized data available in databases and uses computers to process amounts of data that no human could. I believe the use of computers in conjunction with biological and medical data will allow us to make use of currently unused data to draw new conclusions about biological research.

Genetics

I am most interested in the process through which genetic mutations become expressed as a disease. From a medical perspective, genetic research is the first step to understanding these diseases and make use of novel techniques like precision medicine to counter them.

Healthcare Disparities

As a pre-medicine student I feel that it is important to actively seek out the areas that healthcare fails, especially regarding socioeconomic inequities that cause a huge number of marginalized patients to go overlooked. I hope that by shedding light on these inequities we can learn how to better reach out to and provide quality care for the affected communities.
